It’s the most important and special moment of your day – the wedding ceremony. That breath-taking moment when you walk down the aisle to marry the person of your dreams! But how do you make first impressions that last? Here are some great wedding ceremony decoration ideas for instant wow factor.
Outdoor wedding ceremony decoration ideas
If you are getting married in the summer, there is nothing more beautiful than marrying outside in the middle of nature! Many venues now have an area outside where you can legally marry so long as you are wed under a fixed structure.
Soft whites and mixed textures work perfectly against beautiful natural greenery. If the ceremony is on the grass a lovely ivory aisle with petals adds to the perfect setting.
Chiffon chair drapes with lots of lace works perfectly for a vintage country garden wedding. Shepherd’s Hooks are great if the wedding ceremony is on grass as they can be placed straight into the soft ground to hang filled vases of flowers or candles.
Outdoor wedding top tips:
Do: check with your venue if scatter petals are allowed and if they must be real rather than silk.
Don’t: Worry about the weather! Have a back-up plan in place should the weather take a bad turn, agree it in advance with the venue and let your venue dresser know.
Indoor wedding ceremony decoration ideas
Many venues have gorgeous little rooms or areas that can hold your guests for the ceremony. These are normally without limits to how you can have it dressed to tie into your theme and colour scheme.
Celebrant table decoration
It’s a good idea to have your celebrant table decorated – it’s definitely going to feature in the photography with some of your first moments as a married couple.
A full drop textured tablecloth. Sequin tablecloths give added shine and glamour, or you could opt for a beautiful ivory rosette cloth. Finish the table with a mixture of candles and make space for your bouquet to take pride of place in the centre. If you are having a floral display on the top table, ask your stylist/florist to put it in the ceremony room first and it can be moved onto the top table after the ceremony.
Wedding Ceremony chair decoration
We love a bit of chair décor. And the ceremony is no different. On a budget? Perhaps just frame the aisle with side sashes on the chairs directly either side of the aisle. If the chairs do not suit the room or the décor style be sure to have them covered. Even the simplest changes can really transform a room.
Indoor Ceremony Top Tips
Do: Check with your venue if real candles are allowed inside your ceremony room. They may have to be enclosed or led flames. A good venue dresser will have lovely led versions available if you cannot have the real thing.
Don’t: Forget yourselves when it comes to counting and covering ceremony chairs! Yes, it’s likely you will be standing when saying your vows. But you will probably want to be seated when signing the register. It is also worthwhile to check if you will need chairs for any officiants present and therefore will need them covered.
Many churches are beautiful venues, full of history and beauty. Add subtle décor such as flowers on pew ends and at the end of the aisle. Choose flowers that can be easily transferred to your reception venue so that you can enjoy them for the whole day!
We had a week to pull together arrangements for 30 tables, fitting the colour scheme of pink, grey, silver and white to match the Brand for One Size Fits All. We choose a selection of low centrepieces to ensure there was still a perfect view of the centre stage.
We added some well fitted sparkle with rose gold and silver sequin table runners and used a selection of birdcages, lanterns and glassware together with an array of pink and white flowers to tie into the theme. And of course, pearls darling!
The producer was kind enough to offer us space for a pop-up banner to let the lovely women of the day know the it was Elf Occasions who did the décor. Not one for pop-up banners I took advantage and used one of our lovely mirrors that we use as mirror table plans with lots of white flowers and pearls.
We met some fab suppliers at the event and there were some amazing styles on show. Including beautiful dresses from The Prom Shop and gorgeous bridalwear from Abigail’s Collection to name a few.
All photography was done by talented Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer Maryann from The Menagerie Lifestyle Photography. I’m lucky to be working with Maryann on an upcoming Brand Photoshoot soon as well so watch this space…
And Gok himself? Well he is as amazing in person as he is on the TV, a truly genuine and lovely guy! Special mention to Georgia, Peter and the whole team, it was a fabulous event enjoyed by everyone!
So, you’re getting married this year…this year! Time seems to have flown by since the engagement and now’s the time to get organised.
You’ve finalised your budget, sorted your guest list and have chosen the most amazing venue. Now it’s time to action all the little details that will make your day how you both want it – just perfect!
Time to do your supplier research – It’s hard to know where to begin when looking for the right suppliers for your wedding. There are many great ones out there, but it is important for you to choose one’s that really suit your style, and that you are confident they will give you exactly what you want for your big day. Start by looking at suppliers’ websites, pictures and portfolios online to get a sense of their style. Visiting a wedding fayre is a perfect place to see lots of suppliers and ideas all under one roof to help you find and define what you need. Large wedding fayres will give you a wealth of choice. But if you find that overwhelming, select some smaller, local fayres to have a look around. (We prefer exhibiting our venue styling at smaller fayres as it means we have more time to have a chat with the brides we see, to really get to know what they are looking for!)
Don’t feel obligated to book at wedding fayres. Take information away and take time to digest what you have seen. Book follow-up consultations with suppliers you like so you can have a longer 1 to 1 with them. As venue stylists, Elf Occasions do free consultations -usually at your wedding venue. This is where we can bring some styling ideas such as table centrepieces & chair covers and decorate a small area at your venue, so you can visualise exactly what your décor will be like.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you are panicking right now of everything you need to do in the lead up to the wedding, choose some trusted members of your wedding party and allocate some jobs to them. Most will be happy to help and pleased that you have asked and trusted them to help on your big day. Perhaps ask parents to do some follow-up phone calls with members of the family that haven’t confirmed their attendance yet. Get your fiancée to make a playlist of songs you want played on the day and to make sure you have passports and everything you need for the honeymoon!
On the day – relax! It’s here. Take it all in. All your hard work has come together, and you are marrying the person of your dreams. Ensure you take some time out just the two of you at some point in the day. Time to reflect, enjoy and ‘high-five’ each other on what an amazing, special day it has been for you both!
