We are a charity that supports over 6,000 people in Essex who are partially sighted or blind, along with their families and carers. We operate from two resource centres in Chelmsford and Saffron Walden where we have a full range of equipment to demonstrate assisting people with their everyday living needs and to maintain their independence. This ranges from lighting to screen readers, speaking clocks, watches, kitchen aids, speaking TV control systems and IT support. We are also able to visit people in their own home who are unable to come to us.
We operate hospital desks to give advice and information to newly diagnosed patients when they most need it. This is done from 7 regional hospitals including Braintree Community Hospital and Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford. In addition we also run two talking News services, an employment service that aids vision impaired people to prepare for the workplace or to retain their existing employment and a befriending service to support people who are house bound and unable to participate in our social activity in order to ensure they do not become socially isolated or lonely.
We provide regular coffee mornings, social lunches and outings for our community including a recent coffee morning in Witham wich anyone with sight loss be it partial or full are welcome to attend.
